Let go of the past

Let go of the past

Listen to Audio Devotion

Memories of our Past can often haunt us, and hold us captive. Memories of the past can make us feel guilty. Memories of the past can tell us that we are not good enough and we will never be good enough.

But what God desires is that we let go of the past. We forget the past and move on to the future.

Bible says,

Isaiah 43:18–19 NIV
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

This word comes to Israel as they are in captivity in Babylon. God speaks a word of comfort saying, forget the former; do not dwell on the past.

We will lose our joy if we dwell on the past
We will lose sight of the future. our future will look hopeless if we dwell on the past.
If dwell on the past, we will not be able to see the work that God is doing in our life.

So, God tells the people to stop dwelling on the past and see the new thing he is doing.

You may find yourself in a place where you are dealing with the guilt of the past. Memories of the past are haunting you..but it’s time to let go. Forget the past and let go of it, so you can see the great future God has in store for you.

You are not defined by your past but defined by the great plans God has in store for you.

Let’s Pray

Lord, Help us to let go of the past and see the glorious future you have in store for us. The enemy often weaponizes the past to make us feel guilty, discouraged, and hopeless but help us today so that we may overcome and live according to your word, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
