Our Nation Matters

Our Nation Matters

Listen to Audio Devotion

It is Independence Day, this is the day when everyone celebrates the time when our nation got its freedom from British rule. This year marks the 77th year of independence of our nation.

I believe that this year we must pray for leaders who are at the forefront of running our nation. It is not a coincidence that we are born in this great country. But it’s God’s plan. Just as God has a plan for he also has a plan for our nation. And so we have the responsibility of praying for our leaders.

The Bible says this,

1 Timothy 2:1-2 NIV
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” –

There is an obligation for us to pray, whether we agree with our leaders or not, we are given the responsibility of praying and interceding for them

Some might say, they don’t know God like we know. How should we pray for them? In this passage, Paul outlines the universality of prayer and the power of the gospel, that no matter who people are whether Christians or non-Christians, whether they are against us or for us, we are to pray for them.

“No one is outside our prayers, for no one is outside the love of Christ, and no one is outside the purpose of God, who wants all to be saved.”

William Barclay

On this day, I urge you, Pray for our Leaders, Pray for our nation because our Nation matters to God.

Let’s Pray

Father, we want to thank you for this great nation that you have blessed us with. Thank you for the leaders and the ministers in charge of running this nation. We pray for your peace to prevail and your wisdom to lead them in the right direction so that they may be able to serve people of all kinds and all backgrounds. We thank you that you have a great plan for this nation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
