“Being filled with the Spirit implies granting Him the freedom to occupy every part of our lives, guiding and controlling us. Through this infilling, our lives become fruitful and begin to proclaim the glory of God. To become mature Christians who walk in the fullness of God’s Spirit, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit, as stated in Ephesians 5:18 (NIV).
“Observing the lives of the Apostles, we see that they were not only indwelt by the Holy Spirit but also filled with Him. When Peter was arrested and brought before the High Priest, they questioned him, ‘By what power or what name did you do this?’ Filled with the Holy Spirit, he answered them as recorded in Acts 4:8-12 (NIV). Peter had every reason to fear, as he was addressing the same High Priest and leaders who had condemned Jesus to death, and they could have done the same to him. However, Peter was undeterred. He proclaimed the truth boldly because he was filled with the Holy Spirit.”
“When the Bible describes men filled with the Holy Spirit, their lives demonstrate that this filling empowered them to speak and preach the gospel boldly, unafraid of opposition.”
“2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV) clarifies that uncontrolled behaviour in worship or church settings is not godly. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we “walk by the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16 NIV), producing fruit as a result (Galatians 5:22–23 NIV). Another benefit of being filled with the Holy Spirit, as described in Ephesians 5:19–20 (NIV), is that we become true worshippers who delight in praising God. Being filled with God’s Spirit empowers us to fulfil His will and pursue the calling He has placed upon our lives. This focus on the gospel and God’s purpose for us stands in contrast to wild or uncontrolled behaviour in church or other gatherings, such as the repetitive singing of songs in worship.”
