The Cross, Hope of Cleansing

Listen to Audio Devotion

Let’s continue our devotion on the theme cross the Sign of Hope. We spoke about the hope of acceptance, and hope of bonding, today, let’s talk about the hope of cleansing. In 1 John 1:7, God’s word says, the blood of Jesus will cleanse us from every sin. If you look at sin in the scripture, sin is compared to miry clay.

The psalmist in Psalm 40:2 says he was lifted up from the pit of Miry clay. So everyone who sins and lives in sin is making himself dirty. In Proverbs 26:11, while describing a person going back to his past sins. The Bible compares it to a dog that is going back to its vomit. Sin is depicted as a dirty act that makes the sinner filthy in his mind, in his thoughts, in his action, and in his behavior.

There’s nothing clean when a man lives in sin. So what do we do? Jesus Christ was willing to die on the cross for you and me in order to cleanse us from this filthy sin that we are living in. I love these songs. The songwriter writes, what can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. People are trying various things, but the Bible, but the Bible is very clear.

It’s only the sinless blood of Jesus that can cleanse us. Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? The blood of Jesus has the power to cleanse us. The only hope for a dirty sinner is the cross of Jesus Christ. He will not reject anyone. In Isaiah 1: 18, the Lord says, come let’s reason together.

And he says, even if our sin is as read as Crimson, he will still cleanse us and make us clean like wool. Can we turn to him with repentance? He said if we confess our sins, he’s faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. All that he wants us to do is just repent and, and pray to him and accept the forgiveness and the cleansing that he’s willing to give.

Will you pray with me?

Jesus, we come before you, just the way we are. Lord, you know us better than we know ourselves. Dear Lord, forgive us for being careless with our lives for the way we have lived our lives and made ourselves so dirty that we are not worthy to be called your child. I pray that you’d cleanse us with the precious blood of your beloved son and our Lord Jesus makes us clean so that we will be able to celebrate our walk with you. In Jesus’ precious name, we pray amen.
