Get rid of them

Get rid of them

Listen to Audio Devotion

Colossians 3:8 NIV

8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

When we walk into a room that’s filthy, collecting dust, that’s dark and dingy what do we do ? Do we think, “Well. it’s a great place to stay ?” or do we think, “This room needs to be cleaned up.” What is our response? Most likely it would be the latter, i.e., we think this place needs a clean-up.

Similarly, the word of God invites us to introspect our lives and it gives us a list of things we need to get rid of. What are they?

  1. Anger: Short-tempered behavior. If something doesn’t go the way we want we immediately show our displeasure
  2. Rage: Rage is a combination of impulsive behavior + extreme level of anger
  3. Malice: Speaking with an intent to destroy
  4. Slander: False accusation & the like
  5. Filthy Language: Abusive words.

all these need to be removed from our life.

Once we come to Christ, there shouldn’t be any part of us that resembles the old characters in any way but rather our life must proclaim who God is.

May we be imitators of Christ, than imitators of the world.

Let’s Pray

Lord, you have clearly put down a list in your word of the things we need to get rid of. Help us to introspect our life, and get rid of things that don’t please you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
