2 Peter 1:10
Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.
Are you completely sure that you are saved? Does the tag “I’m saved” run in the family? Are you saved because “well, we’ve been going to church since birth”? Are you saved because you raised your hand to be prayed for, or walked to the ramp and kneeled down in the alter call of a meeting? Or is it because “…God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved”? (Eph 2:3-5)
The word of God says it is possible to be completely sure whether you are saved or not. God in fact commands us to seek after it – seek after that assurance, as we saw in today’s passage “Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.” (2 Pe 1:10)
Ask yourself, Am I saved ?
Knowing the answers to the questions “Am I saved?”, and “Why am I saved?” is a crucial exercise you need to undertake, if you haven’t already done so. It is a foundational question for your walk as a Christian, and your conviction to the answer matters most.
Tomorrow someone might pop up in your life, teaching all kinds of non-sense about salvation by quoting scripture but unless you know why you have been saved, you’ll just be like “children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.” Eph 4:14.
If you’re unsure of this then your sanctification is nothing but you getting better at following this religion called Christianity. Without the foundation of faith, everything you build upon is going to crumble and fall.
This assurance is not a logical conclusion based on your thought process and circumstances. This assurance is divine. Let’s ask God today to cement the foundation of faith by giving us this divine assurance of our salvation. And don’t worry, if you are saved, God will guard this assurance through faith. (1 Pe 1:5)
Let’s pray.
Father, we come reminding ourselves of the amazing good news of our Lord Jesus. We trusted Him to save us, and we continue to trust that He will do everything necessary to keep us saved. Let this blessed divine assurance be with us as we’re sanctified every day. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
