A Glorified Body

A Glorified Body

Listen to Audio Devotion

Yesterday, we looked at planning in light of eternity. Today we’ll be looking at how our bodies will be for eternity.

The place that we would go to in 100 years, our eternal destiny, will be in one sense similar to the place that we are right now, but there are major differences as well. When we look at heaven through the scriptures, we often come across the word “glory”. It’s also a word that is closely associated with the presence of God. We are most certain that the Glory of God will be manifest in heaven like never before. It’s not limited to the place that we currently live, but also our bodies. Even our bodies will have a sense of continuity, but also discontinuity. There’s much mystery around it, but Jesus Himself says that we’ll be “like the angels” (Matt. 22:30).

Paul sheds more light on the characteristics of the future body. He adds, “Thus also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruptibility. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.” (1 Corinthians 15:42–44, LEB)

Notice the obvious contrast in the passage. I don’t know how corrupt, dishonouring, weak your body is today. Let’s look forward to a body that is incorruptible, glorified, powerful and spiritual. The new body will be clothed in immortality. It’s something that Adam wanted to possess since the start of humanity but was fulfilled by the second Adam, our Lord Jesus.

Let’s pray

Our gracious Father, we thank You for sending Your Son. We thank You for the destiny that you planned for us. Help us realize and understand it. In Jesus’ name Amen.
