Sin makes you hide from GOD

Sin makes you hide from God. Sin makes you run away from God’s presence. When God created Adam and Eve and put them in the garden, they committed a sin against God and their response to God’s presence was that when they heard God walking in the garden, in the cool of the hid from the Lord.

Genesis 3:8-9 NIV

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day. They hid from him the Lord God among the trees of the garden, but the Lord God called to the man. Where are you?

What we see here is the first interaction that happens between God and man after man commits a sin against God.

And before the fall happened, before everything went haywire, God had fellowship with Adam and Eve. He would come down to the garden in the cool of the day, probably, an evening time to have fellowship with the man. But, what happens here is he’s hiding from God. You see, this is what happens when we sin against God.

When we sin against God, we don’t have the desire to be in his presence rather we run away from him because there is something I in us that has come into our life that, that we don’t want to deal with. Because we know the consequence is gonna be bad. We know that it displeases God, and so often the default response that we have is, let me hide somewhere. Let me run away from God. But the more we run away from God, the more we are keeping ourselves from receiving that forgiveness and restoration from God. Sometimes we may think, well, if I can just hide and if I can just be somewhere, maybe it’ll just disappear one day and then everything will be all right.

You know, hiding from what you’ve done or running away from what you’ve done will never solve that situation, but rather coming to God, confessing your sin, and pouring out your heart to him is what will help you find forgiveness and restoration in God. Now I look at this situation and I see that God already knows because He’s an all-knowing God.

He knows that Adam has committed a sin, but still comes calling to the man, “where are you ?”. Many times, Jesus is calling us to him, He knows what we have done. He knows the things that we have committed against him. He knows the issues that are in our relationships. He knows the certain live-in relationships that are happening.

He’s very much aware of all the sins that we are committing. But, He comes to us and this is what we must understand, that God hates sin, but he still loves the sinner and that is why he sent his son Jesus for us. So even though our sins made us run away from God, God has sent his son Jesus to seek us, to save us from our sins.

So running away is not the solution, but accepting that free gift of salvation by repenting of your sin is the way to new life in Christ. I pray that as you begin your day if there is a sin that is plaguing your life today. If there is something that is destroying you today, ask the Lord for help to overcome, so that your life can become new once again.

Let’s pray.

Father, deal with everything that is displeasing to you. Help us not to run from you, but help us to run towards you so that we may find forgiveness and restoration. We thank you that you’re the God who came for us. Seek and save those who are lost and those who are sinners. We thank you for all that you’ve done for us. In Jesus name. Amen
