Tuning in

Tuning in

Listen to Audio Devotion

We know that our God is a person, and to those who believe in Him, He is a personal God. He is with us, around us; you don’t even have to open your mouth to speak to Him, for He knows your thoughts and cares about what you feed your mind with. We have much clarity about the speaking to the majestic God, but often forget what it is to hear from Him. We wait eagerly that He would speak back, or that He would send an angel to share that DM with us. We sometimes beat ourselves thinking non-sensical things like “I probably need to tune into His frequency, maybe train myself more to perceive His voice”.

I’d like to take you back to a simple yet profound thing that I heard in a sermon – the preacher said, “You want to know the mind of God, the will of God – read the bible. You want to hear the voice of God telling you this, then read the bible loudly and you’ll hear the voice of God.” This quote for me was an important one to realize the sufficiency of scripture. We spend so much time trying to hear God’s voice over a specific situation, the dilemmas that we face in daily life, completely ignoring His voice that He has already spoken, his precepts, in which we’re constantly falling short. God has revealed (literally breathed) whatever is in the bible so that we might know Him. Let’s not simply turn to the bible only when emergency strikes. It’s like having a screenshot of a movie and expecting to know the story. You won’t have a true picture of who the Lord is and what He wants you to know. We spoke about this even yesterday, but let’s spend time in discovering the treasury of truths through God’s voice.

Prayer

Father, help us as we’re weak in our faith to turn to your word every single day. Help us to understand that this is your Word. It’s unfathomable that we can actually hear you speak. Your word is sufficient. Help us understand it and give us your insights as we read them. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
